All-Inclusive
In Brazil, true all-inclusive resorts cluster on the northeast coast. The densest strip is the north coast of Bahia, along the BA-099 (Estrada do Coco, then Linha Verde from Praia do Forte), through Guarajuba, Praia do Forte, Imbassaí and Costa do Sauípe. It is the easiest all-inclusive trip in the country: Praia do Forte is about 59 km from Salvador airport and Costa do Sauípe around 80 km, so you can land in the morning and be at the pool after lunch. The other big cluster runs from Maragogi to Porto de Galinhas, in Alagoas and Pernambuco. Maragogi sits about 130 km north of Maceió, mostly along the coastal AL-101, and roughly as far south of Recife airport, so compare flights into both. Smaller pockets include Ceará and Rio Grande do Norte (Cumbuco, Touros), southern Bahia (Trancoso, Comandatuba, Porto Seguro), Mangaratiba on the Costa Verde, with the Club Med at Rio das Pedras, for travellers landing in Rio, and, inland, the Club Med Lake Paradise at Mogi das Cruzes, about 70 km from São Paulo and roughly an hour from Guarulhos airport. Read the plan before you compare resorts. In Brazil the term covers the main meals, snacks and drinks, but each resort sets the detail: some packages pour only beer and wine, some keep the better restaurants or branded spirits for an upper level of the plan, and a few run the all-inclusive only at set hours. Boat trips and outings are generally not part of it. Half board is also common on this coast, so a famous name on the Linha Verde is not automatically all-inclusive: check the meal plan line, not the photos. Timing matters more than the brand. Salvador's wettest stretch runs from April to June, with May the peak at about 300 mm on INMET's 1991-2020 normal, so a pool week on the Bahia coast is a safer bet from September to March. In Maragogi, the boats to the Galés natural pools, about 6 km offshore, only go out at low tide, ideally 0.5 or lower on the tide table, so look at the tides before fixing your dates. I don't recommend a specific stay here yet: this is a guide to where the format exists and how to choose. I would choose all-inclusive for a family week by the pool or a honeymoon with no plans, when nobody wants to drive after dinner. I would skip it if you want the Pelourinho in Salvador or the restaurants of Praia do Forte village, because the included meals would go unused. If you rent a car rather than booking a transfer, know that the BA-099 is a toll road run by the CLN concession, with a toll plaza near Camaçari.

Apartment
In Brazil, a self-catering stay is usually called a flat or apart-hotel: a compact apartment, usually 25 to 65 m² laid out as a studio or one or two rooms, inside a building that runs hotel services such as a reception, housekeeping, laundry and 24-hour security. São Paulo is where the format grew, from the 1970s and 1980s, into a real rival to classic hotels. In listing titles, "flat" and "apart" usually signal this kind of stay, "residence" and "studio" less reliably, since some are plain hotels; the word to look for in the description is cozinha or kitchenette. The detail that matters is who rents you the unit. Many flats sit in a hotel "pool", where owners hand their apartment to the hotel operator and you get the brand's standard service. Others are rented by the owner directly, which is what a title like "Flat particular em hotel 4 estrelas AV Paulista" signals: you use the building's pool and front desk, but cleaning, breakfast and check-in times are the owner's call. I read that line before the photos. Where to look: in São Paulo, around Avenida Paulista and the Jardins next to it, the most central base for a first visit, or in Itaim Bibi near Faria Lima for business. In Rio, Barra da Tijuca suits a stay built around its beach, the Riocentro or the Parque Olímpico, but it is far from the Zona Sul: metro Line 4 ends at Jardim Oceânico, on the eastern edge of Barra, so Copacabana and Ipanema mean a long ride from anywhere further west. An apartment in a purely residential condomínio is a different case: in May 2026 the STJ's Second Section ruled (REsp 2.121.055) that repeated short stays change a building's residential use and need approval by two thirds of the owners. That is one more reason I prefer a declared flat or apart-hotel. I would pick one for a week or more, a family trip or work in São Paulo, and skip it for a daily breakfast buffet and a resort pool scene.

Beachfront
In Brazil, "beachfront" means two different things, and the hotel name rarely tells you which. Pé na areia is a pousada or resort that opens straight onto the sand. Frente mar, in the big cities, usually means a tower facing the beach across the orla avenue: Avenida Atlântica in Copacabana, Avenida Boa Viagem in Recife. Both have the view; only the first lets you walk out barefoot. I read the room name before booking: "vista mar lateral" sees the sea from the side. The 126 beachfront stays on this page sit in 16 destinations, with an average hotel score of 9.13 and 65,776 reviews in total. Maceió leads with 16, then João Pessoa with 15, Aracaju and Recife with 12 each, and Fortaleza with 11. Only 14 are pousadas; most of the rest are flats and aparthotels, handy for a family that wants a kitchen and a balcony over the water. If you want to walk out barefoot with small children, I would skip the towers of Avenida Boa Viagem and Avenida Atlântica, where traffic separates you from the sand, and look for a pé na areia pousada. Each coast has its own rainy season, so the best months shift by half a year along the shore. On the Ceará coast, Fortaleza included, the rains run from February to May. From Natal down to Salvador they fall mostly from April to July. In São Luís the wet season runs from January to June, heaviest in March and April. Rio de Janeiro, Santos and Florianópolis get their rain as summer storms, from December to March, often in the late afternoon; in Vila Velha the rainy season runs from November to March. In Recife, Boa Viagem and Piedade account for more than half of Pernambuco's recorded shark incidents: I would swim only where the reef shelters the water and the flags allow it. In Maceió, the Pajuçara natural pools only appear at low tide, about 2 km offshore by jangada, so pick your day with a tide table. Fernando de Noronha, with direct flights from Recife and from São Paulo-Guarulhos (LATAM), charges every visitor a daily environmental preservation fee; the ICMBio marine park ticket is needed only for park beaches such as Sancho, Sueste and Atalaia, and under-12s and over-60s are exempt.
